I am a civil service executive office...Hear , hear! I am a civil service executive officer, 2 grades above clerk. I THINK I was earning @ 38,000. I looked at a ded slip for 2010- this had around 3,000 deds on various Greedy banker levies Plus tax, PRSI, superannuation, union deds, annual bus ticket etc,
And there are plenty of clerks who earn less than me And have families ( I don’t). I am NOT complaining - anyone a grade or 2 below me has plenty of reason to complain.
My department has 1000 people- ¼ are EO’s like me and 1/4 are clerks- so Half my department at least are quite modestly paid.
BUT yes, those way up the scale , especially at the TOP can get very fat salaries- at times for Incompetence ( Didn’t the Department of Finance come in for heavy criticism in Nyberg?)
…as for Judges……
“Short of genius, a rich man cannot imagine poverty.”- Charles Peguy**

** I always thought this quote was from French philosopher who I had vaguely heard, of, Blaise Paschal, turns out it was from French socialist and writer I never heard of Peguy: born to poverty in late C19, managed to win scholarship to a good school under enlightened French educational policy, managed to better himself, became influential- and died in WW1.
I AM digressing here- but on researching where that quote came from, Isn’t it Striking how many socialists there were in early C20 Europe and Russia - and how Passionate they were about really helping their fellow man? Time for C21 to return to such noble ideals , isn’t it- La Greed Epoque clearly hasn’t worked.annanoreply@blogger.com
