Cyclist hurt by rope tied across road in Dublin.
You really have to wonder about the breed of über-scumbag being brought up these days in dear old Erin. Particularly - I'm shamed to say it, as a Dubliner of many generations - in the capital.
What about this one below? If this woman, or anyone else, had been on a motorcycle they would most likely have been decapitated.
And then we have the head of the Dublin Cycling Campaign witlessly advising the perpetrators on how they can hone their techniques...
Cyclist hurt by rope maliciously tied across road ‘hopes it’s a oneoff’
Monique Kelleher was knocked off her bicycle by a rope tied to two poles at head height
(Irish Indpependent 2 July 2013)
A WOMAN knocked off her bike and left with neck and hand injuries after schoolkids tied a rope across a road has said she will continue to cycle.
Monique Kelleher was cycling at night along Mercer Street in Dublin 2 when she hit the rope tied across to poles and went “flying”.
‘I was cycling past and my neck got caught in the rope causing me to fly off my bike and hit the ground,” she wrote in an online account, in which she also posted pictures of
her injuries.
“Luckily, I haven't broken any bones and have come away with light injuries, but someone else may not be so lucky.
‘I just want to warn other cyclists and the public that this is happening as I haven't heard of it before in Dublin,’ she wrote.
This morning, speaking on RTE Radio, Ms Kelleher said that the gardai are investigating the matter – and thanked a couple who came to her aid.
“They (gardai) said that it happened a couple of years back in a adjacent street to Mercer… but nothing more recent. The guards were brilliant and have been really helpful.
“The couple who did help me – they stayed for an hour. They were very helpful,” she added.
“I don’t know if it’s a once-off or not – I hope to think so.”
And she said the incident would not put her off cycling in the city.
“It will definitely make me make different choices on where I cycle, especially late at night.
The Dublin Cycling Campaign has branded the dangerous prank “absolutely unacceptable”.
The campaign's Mike McKillen said he wasn’t aware of this happening in the city before.
“She was very lucky that it was just a string or a piece of rope. If it had been a wire, it could have killed her,” he told the Herald.
“This sort of thing is absolutely unacceptable.”
Given that the schools closed last Friday, the rope on Mercer Street may have been tied by local schoolkids, he added.
“It's a serious offence to do that. It's not a joke at all. I've never come across it before in Ireland. Cyclists have enough to contend with. That is the last thing they need.”

Dublin is choc-a-bloc full of scangers and scumbags. I work in the horror zone of the O'Connell St./Marlborough Street/Abbey St. axis and it is truly horrendous to encounter junkie after junkie, alkie after alkie, scumbag after scumbag every time I step outside my office. Nothing has ever been done about it in all the years I have worked here and the situation gets worse by the day. Of course, you can't tell this to a guard or the city authorities without getting some nonsense and useless reply back. They seem to be able to keep them off the Southside Grafton St. area, though. The scanghound elements are few and far between there, despite the fact that this incident occurred on the Southside.
I work in town myself, Jim. And yes, I see the same things as you all the time.
in fairness, dey do be letting sum of de scumbags on de southside, udder wise how wud de fianna failures get to de dail bar.
Ha ha. Too true, dirtiebertie.
Knacker Nation. Don't blame the kids blame the environment, DNA, the parents. Callous scum.
GM same pattern in Animal Cruelty. It'll only get worse...

How can you get so many SKANGERS on one small Island?
Holy F***!
My old dear always used to say that people who were cruel to animals would be cruel to people if they got the chance. And here we have proof.
This might sound a bit right-wing, but I think a sterilisation programme is urgently needed.
Animal rights campaigners fear the grotesque disembowelment of a horse in Dublin may have been a ritualistic killing.
Shocked police officers discovered the body in the Darndale area of Dublin made famous by the Commitments movie.
The Irish Independent reports that an animal rights protection group has offered a $7,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
The animal was found dead, sliced open, and discarded in the Darndale Park area.
The report says the horse was horribly mutilated and had its ears cut off. Animal rights campaigners described it as ‘resembling a ritualistic killing.'
The Animal Rights Action Group (ARAN) is offering a reward given the ‘grotesque’ nature of the killing and to encourage those with information to ‘come forward.'
ARAN spokesman John Carmody said: “This is one of the most grotesque, sordid and disturbing cases we’ve ever dealt with.
“If this didn’t happen where it did and it happened somewhere up a mountain I would say it was somewhat of a ritualistic killing.
“There needs to be stiff fines and jail sentences as well as psychological evaluation for perpetrators, because people will continue to abuse animals unless something is done very soon.”

Scum 1
Scum 2
Hi GM, Stories about animal cruelty make me sick - you are reading about these type of stories way 2 often - something REALLY needs 2 be done 2 try stop this from happening - ASAP ! Maybe if a law came into place were the same horrible, disgusting, sick, mindless act was done to these scumbags, maybe then it might stop it, because as animal cruelty laws stand at the moment I really DO NOT think a small to medium fine is justifiable to the poor animal(s), the laws NEEDS to be changed to put fear into these gobshites as that - I feel - is the only way to put an end to this ! Brody
I agree, Brody. This "kind of thing" is far too commonplace in Ireland.
A MODEST PROPOSAL
I totally agree with the sterilisation idea, if we sterilise the feckless crime riddled drug addled underclass plus the political dynasties that have f****d this country up and the greedy dead eyed psychotic banking crooks and the utterly vacant middle classes not to mention the medical, legal and academic elite that have utterly betrayed any concept of the common good we could really have "a great little nation" here.
ps. im not overly fond of the gaa or culchies in general so I might throw them in for consideration as well.
I'd say there'll be about 20 of us left in the place, mick!
