Irish three-day weather forecast
Was walking through the Phoenix Park today when I came upon the spectacle you see above.
A "Gathering" event called World Parks Day which put me in mind of the "Funland" Father Ted episode.
The footage is short as I was so embarrassed by it all, to be honest, I wanted to get away as quickly as possible.
Arthur
Mathews and Graham
Linehan had their fingers on the pulse, it seems.

In anyway GM, did you have a nice time ? ! I see you didn't get the weather for it ! !:) brody
fucking hell !!!
@ Brody. Well... my being there was purely co-incidental, of course!
Got a blog post out of it anyway!!!
@ Nenad. Yes, it's unreal. You're going to miss all this, aren't you? ;-)
The hole thing seems kinda sureal. Like in one of those end-of-days-zombie movies! Yeah, I'm gonna miss it :))
So Nenad - I suppose i'd better "come home" seeing as there's going to be a spare place in Ireland when you leave... Jesus GM - tha's fuckin messin' Wot? No way that was anything other than an impromptu flash mob who forgot their boom box. sad sad sad. Come to France for fuck's sake and we'll have some sun and wine and french food in Provence for a week or two
I had to watch it twice to see if I missed anything
What a farce that was
I pity the people who actually went to it.
@poneygarcon: you can have it ... ;)
@ PonyCarcon. Can't see myself getting out of this place until next year at least, between one thing and another - though your suggestion sounds lovely indeed... I'm sure we'll sort it some time. Did that little video not whet your appetite for The Gathering then????
@ Lew. I was too embarrassed to stand there with my phone going for too long. The whole thing was actually worse in real life!!!
@ Nenad. Yes, know what you mean. Sorry to see you go, but you'd be mad not to, bud.
what utter shite and you just happened to be there.. yeah right!!!
That's what I was thinking also Ella ! ! Brody
Yis are awful sceptics!!! It was pure chance/misfortune, I swear!
The Spider Baby would have been more entertaining.
Ha ha. Yes deffo, Jim.
Dougal: They've got a spider baby.
Ted: - A what? - A spider baby.
Dougal: A freak show thing. It's got the body of a spider but it's actually a baby.
Ted: Oh. How is it a baby? Does it have a nappy on or something?
Dougal: No.
Ted: Does it have the head of a baby?
Dougal: Um No.
Ted: Well, if it looks like a spider and it doesn't gurgle or anything, how do you know it's a baby?
Dougal: They keep it in a pram.
Ah you should have stayed GM - you might have seen the lovely girls competition ! Brody
Dublin and Ireland Ink,are soooo sophisticated and stylish.
Unfortunately a lot of tourists see only through Emerald coloured glasses. Believe the hype, never question anything and are as compliant as the Irish.
Sad really, many of them holiday here and would not tolerate on a daily basis one iota of what is considered the norm here.
@ Brody. I might have bought a jar of Brylcreem and stayed for that.
@ DC3. Good to hear from you old son. Good point. And I wonder how many "Gathering" tourists will ever come back?
GM what are they visiting? It's no longer a country, it's a corporation. It's right wing history written by the Catholic Church and traditions plonked firmly west of the Shannon. All with a contemporary directional movement towards stupidity and chav culture. What exactly are they visiting? A myth? The question is GM, do Tourists really know, or care?
I'd be interested to see do we get any repeat visits, if this shambles is anything to go by!
I did come across an article in a french mag here about the Gallaghers "Gathering" in Donegal and there did seem to be a genuine feeling about the whole thing when the Aussies an Americans met up with the Irish. Normally cynical i was happy to see the distant cousins meeting the stay behinds at the Bridge of Tears near the village where their grandfather had left from. Must be getting soft.
Jasus, GM, it looks like something out of a cheap Zombie film. Glad I missed that one!! or where they Zombies??
"I'd be interested to see do we get any repeat visits, if this shambles is anything to go by!" GM I'd say that information would be as difficult to get as consistent simultaneous emigration and unemployment figures. Great craic.
