Done Deal car for sale – no "Polish" / "foreigners" need apply

This ad, evidently placed in DoneDeal recently by some thick-ignorant gobshite, has – understandably – prompted considerable controversy on the web.

It was recently taken down by said advertising site, but here is a cache screenshot so you can see it in all its glory, orthographic inaccuracies included.

But is such ignorance so surprising in a country where a senator can proudly declare he will not get into a taxi driven by "an obvious non-national"  and then argue that his comments were "taken out of context"?

Leading by example?

It's shocking how little debate there is about such attitudes, especially as they appear to permeate all levels of Irish society.

  2. re: no Polish; Its a well known fact that some nationalities are devious chancers that are only too happy to wipe your eye while they stab you in the back, but lets not talk about the Irish anymore.

  3. Ah c'mon lads, you're all reading stuff into this that just isn't there. He only meant that the car hadn't been polished and probably was a bit worried that any foreigners who saw it might get the wrong impression about the irish and think that they are a little slovenly.

  4. The polish are a clever people (as are the Russians and many other eastern Europeans). They're always trying to make a good bargain. But tell me who's not? A few years back an irisch woman tried to sell me her couch for €600 !!! *lol*

  5. @ Dirtybertie. Yep... no shortage of those in indigenous Ireland.

@ Ponyboy. Ha ha. You know you could be right. No doubt the poster will be aware that "polish" (as in the substance) is a common noun, with a lower-case "p". If he meant Polish people he would, of course, have employed a capital "P".

I hope his car is still rusting in the garden!!

@ Nenad. That couch story doesn't really surprise me, mate. No wonder the place depends on multinationals for its economy.

  6. Even more confusing - he says that if you.re not willing to spend 1700 then don't call him. That's really helping him get the asking price of around 1900. Rust in Peace...

  7. The Daily Mail, who were forecasting the massive influx of of Romanians and Bulgarians to the UK shores, were left red faced when 2 Romanians actually landed on UK soil on the 1st of January, 2014.. The biggest private landlords in the UK who owen one thousand houses, have sent letters to quit to their English tenants, as they said that that the Eastern European pay their rent on time

  8. And the banana republic keeps on popping them out.

So sad to think for all the patriotic heroes out there, all these new foreigners are legally as Irish as they are. They got the Ireland they voted for.

  9. yesterday I sent in a considered opinion to your blog regarding immigration, surprise surprise, you did not publish said comment, I suppose it does not fit in with your trendy lefty so called "liberal" agenda, all I can say is it does no harm to be more open minded,
    you should try it sometime.

  10. mick.

    You're an awful cynic.

I didn't receive an earlier comment from you. Sometimes comments go into spam, but there's nothing there either.

By the way, I'm not a "lefty". I'll leave that dubious term to the likes of Michael D, Eamon Gilmore and David Begg. I think Even Adams and McGuinness are using it now.

    And I'm definitely not trendy.
    You're welcome to post again.

  13. Mick I'd like to know what exactly your point is as well.

Nenad don't rise to the bait. As you know from living here the culture revels in stupidity and childish intimidation. Mick I'm sure is ok. Save you fire.

  19. Ah... "Tiocfaidh ár lá'.

The three Gaelic words that mark out a completely stupid fuck. The "war" is over, you prick. The Brits won it.

And is this the inclusive Shinner brand of "republicanism" we keep hearing about?

I'd rather the Poles in our country than thick ignorant fuckwits like you, scrounging off the State and your parents.
