Justice for Magdalene survivors

"It is not easy to stand outside the mainstream and to continue to press for the truth, but we know this is the way in which human rights defenders undertake their work in every country around the world."

— Dr. Maurice Manning, President, Irish Human Rights Commission (9 Nov. 2010)

A comment on the last post suggested the blog give a permanent link to the campaign seeking justice for the Irish State's Magdalene laundries survivors.

It is incredible that these people are still in the position of  having to fight for justice.

It shows that those who think the bad old days are in the truly in the past should not be quite so smug...

Hi, GM, back online after a bad old illness.big thanks, to all at James Hospital.
The nuns use to have a turnover of about half a million quid on this laundry racket, that was some brass back in the 1950's and it was not moral scruple or indeed intervention from the state, nope, pure economics, the washing machine became more affordable and they lost the business.

Hiya John. Welcome back. Sorry to hear you were poorly and hope you're sorted now.

Yes... quite a lucrative business for the buggers really - lots of contracts and lots of slave labour. I'm sure they cursed the arrival of Electrolux, Zanussi and all the rest.

GM great idea to give the campaign seeking justice for the Irish State's Magdalene laundries survivors, a permanent link on the Blog.

Could I also add GM, "It shows that those who think the bad old days are in the truly in the past should not be quite so smug..." BAD OLD DAYS? GM, have to ask, is that you? Nothing INTRINSICALLY has changed GM, in my opinion. The VIRUS (and it is a VIRUS) JUST MUTATES. Question is, whats the next FIXATION...? It's an IRISH thing. Could be the weather, could be an Island phenomenon, could be genetic...It's all in the leer...

This is an interesting article GM. Note the pang of truth...
