Southill Joyriders in no danger of penalty points

Let's start with a digression, if such a thing is possible.

Limerick gets a very bad press, and even here in Dublin you'll get hardchaws who won't go  within an ass's roar of the place in the interests of self-preservation.  In fairness, head-for-head, there isn't much difference in the crime-stat stakes between the two cities... at least not according to a recent feature in The Irish Times.

Years back, in the old mod days, I visited Limerick on a couple of occasions. While there, I happened to bump into a few fellow scooterists, and the difference between the crowd you had in Limerick and the crowd you had in Dublin was remarkable.  The Limerick lads were sound as pounds.  In Dublin they'd rob the eye out of your head at the time.  A lot of them, anyway.  Scootering solidarity?  Forget it.

Digression over.

Next time you are watching out for the Boys and Girls in Blue trying to zap you for going a few klicks over the speed limit on a dual carriageway, spare a thought for the Limerickonians above who steal cars and drive them dangerously around housing estates in broad daylight, post their feats on You Tube, but cannot - for the life of them - attract the attention of our wonderful gardai.

Is there a Dunkin' Donuts in Limerick?

15 yrs ago I was watching Rab C Nesbitt, hard chaw Glaswegian, in an episode where he met 2 refined middle class women. They cling to each other in terror'Is it any wonder the middle classes must live in Ghettoes?'one twittered.
Rab C was just an Amateur.
Maybe its 15 yrs living in Dun Laoghaire: maybe it's because I'm a big fan of Dun L native Ross O'Carroll Kelly: maybe its because I am a Bit sheltered as this upper class town with the best educated population of any Dail constituency has quite a low crime rate-OR maybe I'm just Getting Older- BUT above video is enough to have me sounding off like Finola O'Carroll Kelly, Ross's mother'South Dublin should be fenced off: there should be a barrier across the Liffey: not only should football be stamped out, but also the causes of it: a cash for Gold shop in Foxrock is only the begining of the rot....etc etc '
NO joyriders don't tear through central Dun Laoghaire-and if they DID Finola O'Carroll Kelly types would be out in force( and their elected reps) but the awful thing for the ordinary decent people on Limerick estates is they have to put up with this as Normal as No One rich or in power Cares.Ireland Diverges on class lines More and More

that's nice from 'puzzled of kingstown'. I really like the notion that spmeone out there doesn't know of or hasn't seen one of these hallmarks of the eighties on if memory serves. Actually have always wanted to lay a few down myself but have you checked out thr price of tyres. S'pose that doesn't matter to the hoons but jesus the smoke's got to have a warning on it from the surgeon general. Give them them old airrports and tons of remoulds and let mothernature sort it out from there.

Ah GM the visionaries that created such hotbeds of enterprise and innovation, have given forth the yonder estates for the betterment of humanity. Not skint and idel yobos with not a brain cell between them, but specimens of all that's good and refined and sane in the world. Ireland should be so proud of the beauty and mirth they have given nature. Oh NO Oireland is NOT a SKANGERS PARADISE. Dublin is not it's capital. Limerick and such and such have not been abandoned. NO, there are no SKANGERS in Oireland. The suggestion that suit of the track and office can signify such insensitivity is mere supposition and conjecture. Such joviality those tricky rapscallions can get up to. They make Seanie and lads soooh envious...

@ Anna. It's true... as long as "this type of thing" is happening in some sink estate it's all grand as far as the authorities (politicians and cops in particular) are concerned.

@ Vroomboy. Most of the cars there are pretty old, I notice. Pre-immobiliser anway... newer cars are just harder to steal, unless the toerags break into your house and get your keys, of course. I'm sure Anna can remember the days when "joyriding" was a hell of a lot more common than it is now. I seem to remember a taxi driver killed by some such specimen back in the day, near Clonsilla. It's less common now, I think, soley due to immobilisers.

@ Dakota. It seems we have toerags occupying every social strata here in Ireland. I suppose it's egalitarianism of a sort!!!

Hey Dakota ,print out your comments on this site and bring them to the attention of your psychiatrist asap ,your meds are still not working ,you sad bigoted a-hole .What is the point of this site ? .You pick any story and spin it like ,Ireland is the only country in the world with these problems .You really are a bunch of clueless fools .

The Gombeen Man said...

You turn off comment moderation for a couple of days and this is what happens.

Anony Mouse (it's always an anonymous), one point of the site is to annoy arseholes like your good self, who take any criticism of what goes on in this country as a personal slight.

I suggest a spell in the shrink's chair might do you some good, but I doubt it will cure your stupidity.

@11:16 Anon (LOL) And you're a SACK OF VOMIT. LOL, was it the tracksiut bit that hit your nerve, BRAINDEAD? LOL...Eh, no, on second thoughts I do feel a sense of saddness for you, with the very obvious "I've been to America, or, I am, an AMERICAN pointer, "a-hole." Have you even got an imaginary American accent? You know what I mean, the one you talk to, to, your imaginary friend?

Ah to HELL with it, you wanted it so here it is...

PUKES LIKE YOU CREATED OR CONTRIBUTED TO ONE OF THE GREATEST ECONOMIC CATASTROPHES IN HUMAN HISTRORY. HAVE YOU GOT THAT?

AND YOU ASK, WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS SITE? QUITE SIMPLY (YOU KNOW ALL ABOUT THAT) DIMWIT TO BRING TO THE ATTENTION OF THE SANE IN THE WORLD, THE SPURIOUS EXISTENCE OF CRAP LIKE YOU.

Oh and to further burst your paranoid schiophrenic bubble...YOUR PRECIOUS IRELAND IS A PIIG NATION. IT HAS NOT ONLY DESTROYED MANY INDIVIDUALS NOW, BUT IT HAS ALSO DESTROYED GENERATIONS TO COME...MANY OF YOUR FRIENDS (OR SHOULD THAT BE FIENDS?...IMAGINARY FIENDS AT THAT?) WENT ON A BUYING SPREE SUCKLING FROM MAMMONS TIT, THINKING THEY COULD BUY RESPECTABILITY. HAVE YOU GOT THAT?

NO AMOUNT OF CONTEMPORARY AND IMAGINED FEEL GOOD VAPOURS ARE GOING TO CHANGE REALITY. IF YOUR ILK BELIEVE IN ANYTHING ANYMORE, (AND I"M CONVINCED YOU DON'T) YOU ARE NOT ONY SCUM BUT TRAITORS TO YOUR OWN AGENDA. YOU ARE NOTHING MORE THAN GENERATIONAL CANNON FODDER. BUT ALAS YOU ARE SO COMPLETELY DENSE YOU WOULD PROBABLY NOT EVEN FILL THAT CRITERIA. COGNITIVE BRAIN THERAPY (CBT) MIGHT STILL WORK FOR YOU. IF NOT THERE IS ALWAYS MEDICATION.

Emmm that was good GM. Let some more of those very intelligent individuals on. It shows sane people exactly why Ireland is the way it is.

The Gombeen Man said...

Moderation back on D, as you may have noticed.

I think that pretty much sums it up. What is it with these people? So quick to take offence for OIRLAND but intolerant of those who want to improve it?

Dakota said...

GM no probs if they do get on. Let that ilk "have a go at me" I quite welcome it actually. It gives the demons in their heads some time off.

You made a very telling and profound observation at 13:24GM, "take any criticism of what goes on in this country as a personal slight." THAT and most of all THAT, is the problem with Oireland. It's the Gang or Mafia Esque attitude which destroys and stifles all meaningful and constructive criticism of the country. If you are not with us you are against us. An offshoot of course was, if you don't hop on the property ladder "NOW" then there is something wrong with you. It's Cancerous.

The country may have been psychologically hijacked from 1916 onwards but the responsibility of good governance all falls back to the people and culture at the end of the day. That's another problem, I don't see a solution to GM. You not only get what you vote for but you also get what you produce.

@Dakota - way to go!
@GM makes you wonder about all those trolls out there!

The Gombeen Man said...

@ Ella. As I say, turn of comment moderation for a bit and see what happens...

@ Dakota.
"The country may have been psychologically hijacked from 1916 onwards but the responsibility of good governance all falls back to the people and culture at the end of the day. That's another problem, I don't see a solution to GM."

And that is one hell of a problem, D.
