Bloody hell. That was excruciating.
A 1-3 defeat by Croatia... the side that many thought we would have our best chance against. So much for that, then.
Indeed, before the match kicked off yesterday evening, RTE's Bill O'Herlihy announced that 87% of respondents to an RTE poll thought Ireland would beat Croatia (ranked 8th best team in the world by UEFA).
How could so many Irish people get it so wrong, eh? I'm shocked.
It's just damage limitation from now on folks, unless we wheel Ray Houghton out for the Italy match...

Hi GM, that would be the 87% who thought house prices would continue to rise. The great Paddy Public are spot on with reality.
The very same, Ella...
Delusional and apathetic. You can see why we are the powerhouse of Europe GM.
I'm one the few who feels a sense of schadenfreude and I'm not ashamed.
This country needs a shake-up, maybe getting completely floor-wiped in the bread & circuses of football and rugby is the only way for dole-scroungers and delusional post-boomers to encounter reality.
What I'm most amazed by is the sense of surprise. Sure, it was nice to qualify - in principle - but bloody hell, we have players who aren't even getting their game in Championship teams... Since this post we have been beaten 4-0 by a combination of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
It wasn't a bad result, all considered.
